Stuff to think about

Lots of news this weekend folks... Here's some of the big headlines:

Los Angeles Unified School District teachers are on strike... first strike by UTLA in 30 years; 32,000 faculty and staff on strike; nation's 2nd largest school district; 600,000 students out of school; district has called in subs; low pay, large class sizes, lack of support staff and resources--> sound familiar?

The FBI opened an inquiry on President Trump and his ties to Russia... suspicions grew over the campaign... Candidate Trump asked Russia to hack emails... FBI was concerned but didn't open the case...then Trump was elected president, and soon fired Jim Comey... prompting the FBI to open an inquiry... later that decision was affirmed by Trump's meeting with Russian diplomats in the oval office.

The President also confiscated interpreter notes after meeting with Vladimir Putin... did so after a meeting in Hamburg, Germany... multiple 'closed door meetings' with Putin in Helsinki... has had 'brief' off the record meetings with Putin in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Contrary to the seventh slide, your podcast is due on Friday, January 18!
PLEASE NOTE: WE WILL BE LISTENING TO THEM!

... After you're done listening to the podcasts and reading the requirements, download the script template here:

Okay, so you know the assignment, you've got the script downloaded, you've got three class periods to do it... but you're probably wondering... If I'm going to record my story one time... How am I going to edit all the spots that I mess up on? Check out this tutorial... trust me, you'll get the hang of it in no time!

Good Luck! Remember your deadlines! Record quickly and efficiently! This will be the last BIG grade in podcasting and LPX!

Podcasting, Day 1

So... how is he supposed to get back to the spaceship? Is anyone thinking that right now?
Good news Children of the Corn! Podcasting is upon us! This is our grand entrance to a different type of story telling. The Dark Side of the Earth, presented by Radiolab will give you a good indication of what we'll be looking at.

Listen to the story, and create a feature circle for the podcast. After you're finished, find another podcast and create feature circles for it.

Two feature circles are due today!

This podcast has three things, which make up a good podcast:

  • Sights-- Yes, you can't see much in a podcast (it's all based on audio... duh), but if the podcast is good enough, it can create images in your head.
  • Sounds-- I mean, it doesn't get any simpler than this... just see above. But really, some small but focused sounds can improve that visual, while stimulating other senses.
  • Facts-- Here's the heart of the story... in fact, it's the reason for the story. So if you've got the basic facts of said story, the sights and sounds should come naturally.
